For the 2016/17 sports bursaries, the panel selected 6 National Level athletes to award with a financial bursary with the intention of assisting them to reach the next level of their chosen sport. The Active-In team were very impressed with each of their applications and look forward to monitoring their progress with great interest of the next 12 months. Lorna Bowler - Cycling
Selected as a Hoy Future Star for the Revolution Series in September 2016, Lorna has competed at a consistently high level across the past 12 months. She took part in the Matrix Fitness Women's Grand Prix in June after finshing 4th in the Youth Tour of Scotland in April. An overall classification of 8th place in the Youth Circuit Series reinforced her 8th place national ranking for 2016.
Jamie Drew - Judo
After winning a bronze medal at the British Championships in December 2015, Jamie earned himself an England Squad position for the next 2 years which he has so far justified with his British Judo Association Ippon 1st place ranking for 2016. He has achieved a large number of medals over the past 12 months with gold medals at no less than 6 events, including the London Open and Kent international earlier in the summer.
Timur Gulyiyen - Swimming
A member of the Wycombe District Swim Club, Timur has performed at a high level across a number of events which has resulted in a large number of medals. In the current national rankings he is currently in the top 3 for 50m & 100m Breast Stroke and the 100m Individual medley. Selected to be part of the GB talent camps, he successfully medalled at the British Nationals, and holds a number of records at County and Regional level.
James McFadzen - Swimming
Performing as part of the successful Wycombe District Swim Club programme, James has reached the number 1 ranking for the 200m indiviudal medley in his age group. Further to this, he reached 3 "Target Tokyo" finals at the British Championships, and Olympic Trails. His target is to represent GB at the European Junior Championships & Youth Olympics, and the World Junior Championships in 2017.
Leo Wilkinson - Sailing
A member of Maidenhead Sailing Club, Leo has been competing as part of the national sailing series in the Toppper 4.2 classification. He had 1st place finishes at the Under 12's National Championships and the 5-day Southern Traveller Series. Leo also had several 2nd place finishes including the Inland Championships, the Island Barn Topper selection event, and 2nd place overall at the Volvo GJW Direct Topper National Series.
Hannah Dawbarn - Football
Based in High Wycombe, Hannah is part of the Arsenal Ladies Under 15's squad. As a part of this team, she won the Dallas International Girls Cup in 2016 which featured more than 100 teams from around the globe. Hannah has also been selected for the England Under 15 and Under 16 squads. and forms part of the FA Regional Excellence Camp programme for 2016/17.
